I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when starting The Harvest Festival. I had just read another one of Jack Gallow's new releases and enjoyed his style of writing. I was hesitant at first, only because it was in the paranormal genre and it's not the type of book I typically would even go near. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick I was sucked into the story. I was connecting with the characters more than I ever thought possible. In some ways I was reliving my entire high school experience through the eyes of Mallory and Sean. The only difference was I never had teachers with red glowing eyes, catacombs in my high school basement or the ability to telepathically talk with wolves or huskies during class.

Jack Gallow adds humor where it's least expected and the characters are described in such a way that they feel real. They are your typical teenagers in high school. Mallory's friend Nina was a breath of fresh air with her inexperience with boys, "bad dreams," and chaotic closet.

Mallory Watson's character was delivered in a way that I felt as if I was in her head thinking her thoughts. Feeling her pain. And watching her heart break over her first lost love. It was all perfectly depicted that I never wanted the story to end.

Growing up near the town Fallen Oaks is based off of, I can tell you the author definitely did his research when describing the atmosphere around a typical autumn festival in New England. The cool mornings, creepy cemeteries, and hot cider are all quintessential to the New England season taking place in the story.

I can only hope that this is not the last we've seen of these characters. Even though the ending didn't leave the reader with a cliffhanger, I am anxious to see what else Jack has up his sleeve for the next book.

If you are looking for a fun, young adult, paranormal romance The Harvest Festival is a perfect read for anyone in their teens to their senior years.

This book honestly took me by surprise! I’m not normally a big ‘paranormal’ reader, but the Harvest Festival really worked for me. It has just the right amount of suspense with just a touch of romance to keep you turning the pages and seeing what is going to happen next.

This book has a huge “YA” feel to it and I feel that this was written VERY WELL for that specific genre. I really like this authors writing style. It’s easy to follow and read. I was sucked into the storyline at the very beginning of the book. I was hooked to this book all the way to the very last page. The ending really leaves you hanging… so obviously I can’t wait to read Fallen Oaks #2.
When Mallory Watson is moved from the city to Fallen Oaks, she never expected strange things to start occurring. From nightmares that plagued her nights since her arrival, cursing her with insomnia to strangers gaining an interest in her, she doesn't know what to think.

It seems that strange things lurk beneath the surface of the small town. While stranger things start to happen, from apparitions to "sensing" presences and people walking into her life with warning after the next, Mallory doesn't know what to make of it.

One thing she knows is that she's got some sort of ability--and she isn't the only one.

"The Harvest Festival" is the first of Gallow's "Fallen Oaks" series. Personally, I don't head out to the nearest paranormal shelf in my local bookstore but I can guarantee that you'll enjoy this read.

With hints of mystery, loads of paranormal and sweet nuances of romance, Gallow has definitely written a piece that has not only managed to peek my curiosity but I can say that I will be coming back for more. After all, there's too much to know more about Mallory and the rest of the characters, not to.
I don't normally read a lot of paranormal but this came across as something that I could get into. I've always been fascinated with witches so this book was right up my alley so to speak. The story is about a younger girl that is up routed from her life in the city and moves to this small town. She meets some friends and then weird stuff starts happening around her. She does find romance with the popular guy in town and learns a lot more than she bargained for.
This was a great first book to what I'm hoping is a great series.

Wow. Found this author on Facebook and thought I would give him a shot. Blown away. I love paranormal style reads and this one didn't disappoint. We start off following Mallory,a big city girl moved back to a very small town. Right off things are strange for her. Until a new friend lets her in on all the stares,Mallory seems to be on her own. She meets Sean and it is instant sparks. Strange occurrences began to happen to her and she only gets vague answers from her new found friend's. Just what exactly is going on in the town of Fallen Oaks...My recommendation is to definitely buy this book to find out. Can't wait for the next book so I can get some more answers. I have a ton of questions still.
This book came recommended to me by another author and I'm pleased it did. It's firmly in the YA/Teen Fiction genre - but I'd place it firmly in the paranormal side of that. I'd say it's reminiscent of the Twilight franchise in that respect, as the focus is more on the paranormal aspects of the story, rather than the ordinary school life of the main characters.

A fairly cold, calculating sort, Mallory is no Bella Swan - she's not the soppy sort to moon over one boy. If you're looking for agonising teenage angst, you won't find it in Fallen Oaks. You'll find plenty of the paranormal - and some mysteries that might be better off hidden. Of course, some don't and they make for quite an intriguing story.

I admit I preferred Sean to Mallory - he's a man of his word, though he's also a boy who doesn't always consider the consequences of his actions. No, I can't mention specifics, for that would involve spoilers...

Well worth a read - even for us adults who occasionally enjoy some YA.
