Ripper Stefan Petrucha Books

Stefan Petrucha’s Ripper takes the reader on a wild ride when a series of killings start to occur in late 1800’s New York City that resemble Jack the Ripper. This historical fiction novel is told through the first person view point of a young, cunning boy named Carver Young who was abandoned at Ellis Orphanage as a baby and all he wants is to find out who he really is by finding his parents. The want-to-be detective discovers a mysterious note from his father which Carver then writes to Roosevelt, the new police commissioner, in hopes of finding his father. Adoption day leaves Carver hoping Roosevelt will show up but alas he doesn’t and Carver is adopted by a gnomish looking fellow. This man turns out to be Albert Hawking, a famous detective of the Pinkerton Agency. Carver is now apprenticed to Hawking and looking for his father. He is accompanied on his journey by his friend Delia from Ellis Orphanage, his rival from Ellis Orphanage Finn, and New Pinkerton Agents such as Septimus Tudd, Emeril, and Jackson. The search for his father leads him into a whirlwind of mystery and emotions that he probably would have rather not discovered.

The targeted audience includes teens and adults. As for the tone, it is informal yet comical and serious, the tone seems to switch depending on the varying situations. The mood is hopeful yet sympathetic at times because it leaves the reader hoping for something to happen and having sympathy for not only Carver but other interesting characters. This book is one of the best books I’ve ever read and Stefen Petrucha was genius in making sure the reader was always intrigued. I enjoyed most that it kept you guessing, you’d think you had it figured out then there would be a total plot twist. Also, I liked the incorporation of historical facts and a brilliant story line. As for the main purpose of the novel I do agree that someone can ultimately choose who they want to be and no one, not even blood, can determine who you are as an individual because everyone is different. The one thing I'd change is there are certain parts where the foreshadowing is too obvious which took away the excitement and if changed would pull the reader in more. All in all, an amazing novel.

Ripper Stefan Petrucha Books Reviews

Carver Young is a young orphan who fascinated by detective stories. Suddenly he gets the chance to train to be a private detective just as a string of murders hit NYC. And these aren't any murders. These murders are eerily similar to the Jack the Ripper slayings in London.

People who enjoy mysteries will find this book to be a real page-turner. Taking one of the most famous serial killers and reinventing his story in a new way just made for an interesting read. It's easy to read, and manages to surprise you at times, which is what I look for in any good mystery.
The Ripper by Stefan Petrucha is an exhilarating mystery novel based on the bewildering actions of "Jack the Ripper". Using documented accounts and imagination, Petrucha sets a puzzling tone by placing this harsh murderer in New York City with Theodore Roosevelt as the police commissioner. Carver Young, the main character and an orphan, is adopted by an older man who owns a major secret detective society, particularly working on the NYC killings. Carver longs to live an adventurous life and be a great detective one day, so whenever he is adopted by this important man, he begins proving his determination. Carver's curiosity soon results in him finding information about his father, which gives him a new goal to find his father. Hawking, another main character and the man who adopted Carver, helps Carver with this ambition. In the middle of Carver's scavenger hunt to find his father, a strange turn of events takes place and he finds numerous clues about the "Ripper". The main purpose of this book is to fight for what is worth fighting for and going after something dangerously interesting can be rewarding with the right intentions. I agree with the author's main purpose, however, I do find the lack of crushing a bit of a downer. I do not enjoy reading sappy, drawn-out love stories and there is a little love interest in this book, but I would have liked to see more. Overall, this book is worth five stars, plus some. Well done, Mr. Petrucha, on that plot twist. The thrill of this book makes it such a page-turner and I highly recommend it to anyone interested. Not much would need to be done to improve this book because it is so good in the first place! This book is an enjoyable combination of fact and imagination that would attract both adults and teens to read.
