Lonely Werewolf Girl was honestly an odd one and I am not certain exactly what I thought of it. I read it with one of the Goodreads groups and am looking forward to discussing it. My quickly written review follows...The editing was just plain bad...some think that is someone's besides the author's responsibility. Not sure about that, if it's the author's work is he not at least somewhat responsible?
Repeating of words and actions was annoying at the least. I'm not considering this an editing issue. It must be the way this author writes. I might read another of his highly acclaimed writings just to see if this repeating is his style.
Other world characters were a bit much. I liked these elementals and understood their over the top personalities, but it felt too forced and pushed. I got it, The Fire Queen likes fashion.
On the bright side the author certainly has an active imagination!! From a fire elemental to a punk rock band and a meticulous student to a somewhat lazy one all revolving around an old powerful clan of werewolves...or were the werewolves revolving around the others? Not sure.
Additionally this book was a fast easy read even with the 560 pages. I appreciated the short chapters as I always felt I was moving faster than I was.
I'm glad I read this book, but I do not plan on reading more in the series.
Not recommended, sorry

Lonely Werewolf Girl millarmartin 9780955498404 Books Reviews
Another reviewer wrote that this book was a brick - and they were right. It is a really big book - not that I'm complaining. Ever since the Twilight series I've been disappointed when good books are only 300+ pages. I get excited when I see a good 500+ pager and this one does not disappoint. I only rated it four stars because I had a hard time getting used to the switching of viewpoints. I don't mind a book changing the viewpoint (in fact I enjoy knowing other characters points of view) but this seemed to change every other page and it was sometimes hard to keep track of. That being said, I loved this book and was excited to learn that Mr. Millar is currently writing the sequel. It's not a huge cliffhanger ending but the story ends with a lot of unanswered questions - where did Gawain go, what about Moonglow and Daniel and the overall situation with Kalix's sentencing. Plus I would like to see how Markus handles the Thaneship. I hope that these issues are addressed in the sequel and am looking forward to reading it next year. I definitely recommend this book.
This is such a bizarre book. I kind of expected to hate it for all its silly quirkiness. After a few chapters, though, I was completely drawn in. The characterization is great, and there are so many oddball players in this supernatural drama. I made a family tree on my bookmark as a cheat sheet for all the crazy pack politics. Every hero and villain is equally screwed up and flawed, which made some of them more lovable. If you enjoyed Kelly Armstrong's Broken or Annette Curtis Klause's Blood and Chocolate, or even the movie American Werewolf in Paris, this crazy, goofy, drugged out, and comically violent book is for you.
The plot basically follows the various factions of this completely dysfunctional werewolf clan as they bandy for power, prestige, or the right to just be left alone by the other members of their family. The werewolf king is dead, the brothers fight to succeed. Everyone in the 'royal' family gets a vote, and one of the brothers is making certain they make the right choice...or die. The 'lonely werewolf girl', Kalix, is an exile from her family (and on its hit list) who wanders the streets of London until she hooks up with some dippy hippies with their own group dynamic and soap opera politics. Kalix is a misanthropic, strung-out, semi-literate, petulant, and perpetually angry werewolf...who happens to look like a waif-y, blow-your-mind, hobo-core, indie-model type. Her constant displays of attitude are more endearing than obnoxious, but occasionally you wish the constant battles she gets into would knock a little sense into her.
The books meanders from subplot to subplot with no real urgency, but the fun is in the journey, not the destination...which is a good thing, because not all of the plots are actually tied up by the end. But by the time you get there, you'll have had such a good time, I doubt you'll care. When I finished, I was tempted to flip right back to the beginning and chase the enjoyment of reading it again.
